Strength training relies on the principles of using resistance to build  muscle (specifically lean muscle), bone density, and cardiac health. When with a personal training program a client can experience increase lean muscle which can result in weight loss.

This primarily happens because skeletal muscle will increase as you start to activate your muscles. Over time as muscle and abilities begin to strengthen a certified personal trainer will increase weight, reps or both to keep you body in constant growth and burn.   The body require the fuel for your workouts (the initial calorie burn) and it also continues to burn calories to fuel the new muscle growth that occurs during the following days. This is one reason why a strength conditioning program is so important to any fitness goal.

Over the past decade research has repeatedly show that with regular resistance training and activity bone density will increase. This will lead to less fragile bone structure and lower risk of fractures, breaking a bone, and  injury.

Your heart will benefit the weight training as well.  Adding weight conditioning has shown to lower the risk of high cholesterol resulting in less strain on the heart and cardiac muscle.  Through the use of some great tools such as free weight training, kettlebell workouts, and the battle rope, a personal trainer can put together some exciting and challenging routines for any fitness level. Every trainer specializes in different versions or concentrations of exercise all of which can show the same results when done with correct form.

Personal trainers have some great  tricks and tips that you can add to your routine once you get comfortable using them correctly. One system that is perfect for strength training is the TRX  suspension training system. Simplistic yet scalable for any level of fitness and all muscle groups. Through the use of body weight it is just a good example of the option a Personal trainer can offer you.

When speaking with your trainer make sure to discuss your goals. Ask about strength conditioning and what tools they use when they work with clients. Ask a trainer for a schedule and how many times per week they suggest training.

The true benefits of strength training come from feeling stronger, lowering your risk of heart disease, increase bone density, increase energy, increase athletic performance, just to name a few. Speak with a certified personal trainer about adding strength training to your fitness program.
